Speech Team
This organization provides the students with an opportunity to build and enhance their public speaking skills.

Saint Ferdinand Catholic School is proud to be a part of the Bellarmine Speech League. This is an opportunity for students in grades six through eight to prepare and perform speeches in the categories of serious, humorous, and duets. The children choose their speech and spend time after school working with a faculty coach to prepare for each Speech Meet.

Four Speech Meets are held each year at various locations throughout the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. The children are scored by judges and awarded ribbons and honors based on their performance. Each student or duet is judged individually and there is no competition between participants. This experience is seen as an opportunity to build the individual student’s ability to speak effectively in public. The children are given written evaluations that offer highlights of what went well in their presentation as well as suggestions for further improvement.

The culmination of the year is a final speech meet held in one location for the entire Archdiocese of Saint Louis. Each school who has participated in the preceeding three meets is invited to bring a team to the final meet. The children are again awarded ribbons and honors based on their performance.

The Speech Team at Saint Ferdinand Catholic School is headed by Mrs. Heredia and if you are an existing family who would like to know more, please contact her directly. If you are an inquiring family and would like to know more about the Bellarmine Speech League, please feel free to contact them directly at: (314) 961 - 7301.
