School Board Meeting Minutes:

ST. FERDINAND SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

March 10, 2008

6:00 Opened with prayer; minutes approved

 

OPEN FORUM: None

 

PASTOR’S REPORT:

  • Recent snow storms have forced the parish into costly snow removal
  • Boiler will be replaced in the primary building this summer at an approximate cost of $10-15K

 

PSR REPORT: None

 

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:

  • Current budget was examined
  • Several more families have asked for tuition assistance forms for the 2008-2009 school year; April 1st is the deadline for the Archdiocesan funds, then parish assistance can be sought
  • Matching gift funds are at $27,227.02
  • All classes are scheduled to be at single homerooms next year with the exception of 6th grade
  • Enrollment numbers for 2008-2009 are strong
  • Visit from the School Improvement Team went well; a revised document will be out next month
  • Promethian Interactive Whiteboards were purchased; 2 were ordered that came with primary and intermediate level software
  • Marketing committee is working on funding for more; each whiteboard system costs approximately $2200
  • Total cost of necessary technology upgrades will be approximately $80,000 including 12 classroom boards and projectors, along with 12 laptop computers and 32 laptops on a mobile cart
  • A market research firm visited children in grades 3 and 7 and this provided $4000 for our school
  • St. Ferdinand student will be one of the area representatives for the Geography Bee in Jefferson City
  • Our discipline policies need to be reviewed

 

POLICY: None

 

FINANCE: None

MARKETING:

· Possibility of a photo booth at the Hazelwood Harvestfest was discussed

· Looking into a crest/coat of arms for the school

· Discussed ways to involve current school families: hold a movie night or bowling night, have school families host block parties, use St. Ferdinand sign on Charbonier more often, keep website updated, keep preschool families involved

NEW BUSINESS:

  • School Board Elections: 3 positions open, new members will start in June
  • Announcement requesting nominations will be placed in the bulletin and voting will take place at the end of April
  • Due to outgoing members current positions will need to be filled; Two volunteers agreed to take over the Back to School BBQ

 

Next Regularly Scheduled Meeting: Monday, April 14, 2008 at 6 pm in the teacher’s lounge
