WELCOME TO Homeroom 6I
|
| |
We have settled in nicely in Homeroom 6I. We have adjusted to our routines. We’ve been trained to handle and hang the flag appropriately along with the skill of juggling our books to change classes. In Literature we are studying fiction. As a class we are reading and studying the book, My Side of the Mountain, written by Jean Craighead George. We are enjoying it and it has been difficult not to jump ahead and read the whole book. Our book project at the end will not be your usual book report. I hope the students have fun with this. We have also begun our Poetry Study. We are studying and creating many different types of poems. We have been able to use the computer lab and the Promethean ACTIVBoard in this endeavor. We are creating poetry portfolios which we will use later in the year for our poetry project.
In Religion we have learned our Luminous Mysteries and acquainted ourselves with our new Bibles. We have also been journaling our reflections on our key concepts from our Religion text.
In 6th grade Science we have begun Life Science. We are completing our chapter on cells. We are able to distinguish between an animal and a plant cell. We are also able to identify most of the organelles in each. We have enjoyed using the microscopes along with the Promethean ACTIVBoard. To coincide with our learning, the students created cell models. The cell projects were fantastic. After this chapter we move to cell reproduction and heredity. We have Promethean flip charts for mitosis and meiosis in our future.
