WELCOME TO Homeroom 6I

WELCOME TO Homeroom 6I

We have been busy this first quarter. Our book projects for My Side of the Mountain were a lot of fun. The students created puppet shows from scenes from the book along with very interesting dioramas and murals. A few students created a new ending for the story with new adventures. Some students researched Jean Craighead George and completed an author study. We learned that she had over 100 animals living in her home at one time along with many other interesting facts about the author. We have just completed learning the elements of a short story and are writing our own. We hope to share some of these with our First Grade Buddies. Our on going poetry project has resulted in fabulous poems. We will share these later.

In Religion we are currently learning about Ordinary Time in the liturgical year. Earlier we studied the symbolism in the book of Genesis. We are also combining our religion studies with our character development program. We have studied the character qualities of respect and responsibility.

In Science we have just completed our chapter on Heredity. We learned about cell division and genes. Examining our dominant and recessive traits gave us much discussion. We are now studying Changing and Adapting. We will discover how and why species change over time, how species evolve and how organisms respond to the environment. We will complete this chapter learning how behavior can help an organism survive?

Enjoy a few pictures of this quarter’s cell projects along with our literature book projects.
