Hello KX Families and Friends,
The last time you stopped my our students were getting ready for the annual Spell-A-Thon. The students were given 35 words to know as sight words. Well, with a lot of work at home and school and lots of encouragment too; the children were able to master all the words. Our Spell-A-Thon award ceremony was on November 13. Because we reached our class goal and the school goal, the children will receive a day off of school in May. Needless to say, everyone was very excited to hear that.
In Reading, we are beginning to read stories in our letterbooks. We are identifying words we know and words we don't know in the stories first. We listen to the story being read. The children practice the story several times at school and at home, then we act out the stories. The children are having a great time doing this.
We are working on numbers and sets, as well as, money, addition, tallying, graphing, patterning, and counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s to 100. We work on all these things and more at our calendar time every morning.
We are getting ready for Thanksgiving and reminding each other that we have much to be thankful for. We will begin making some Thanksgiving crafts next week, and soon be preparing for Advent too.
Our new take home bag is lots of fun too. The children get to select a book, take it home, and read it with a family member into a tape recorder. The student and family member then gives us a signal when it is time to turn the page. The children love this bag. I think the parents like it a lot too!!
Please check back with us in December as we prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ.
Thanks for visiting us today,
Mrs. McIntyre and the students of KX
