Hi Everyone,
We are so happy you came back to visit our web page. We are approaching a very exciting time in our school year. WE ARE BEGINNING TO READ. The school Spell-A-Thon fundraiser has begun, and the children are getting pledges for how many sight words they know. The children were given 35 sight words. The children are practicing these words nightly, and I can't wait to add the sight words to all the new phonics skills we have. Put them together and....BOOM WE'RE READING!!
Today the children went to the pumpkin patch with their big 8th grade buddies. They were awesome, and thank you 8th graders for helping us out today. The children will be writing about their visit to the pumpkin patch using their senses. What did you see? What did you hear? Did you taste and smell anything? What did you touch at the pumpkin patch or on the hay ride?
In Religion we just made our team rosaries. My team is the navy team, so we made rosaries with navy beads. They are beautiful, and they are a special way of bonding us together in prayer. Every Friday we have an all-school mass. The children bring the rosaries, and we pray together after mass. In the classroom, we are learning about the rosary, and we are praying a decade together at a time. The children are very proud of their rosaries.
In Math, we are getting ready to take our test on patterns and making patterns. The children really enjoyed this chapter. Next up, we will be working on positions like above, below, behind, between, under, etc.
In Science we are learning about pumpkins and the 5 senses. We are also learning a little about Christopher Columbus and his three ships.
It is hard to believe that we are half way through October already. The children may dress in costume on October 29. The classroom parties will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the classroom. The children may wear any costume, as long as it is age appropriate and isn't scary. Fake or real weapons are also prohibited.
Coming up in December, we will have a dog safety class. The North County Dog Obedience Club will be here to speak to the Kindergarten and first grade students. The class gives very important information on how to stay safe around animals; especially dogs that we don't know.
Well, that's about it. We hope to see you back in November!!
Happy Fall and Happy Halloween, Mrs. McIntyre and the students of Homeroom KX
