Second graders are such amazing learners. Their insights always remind me of the wonderful gifts we are given. We are spending a lot of our time lately talking about how grateful we should be for the many people and things in our lives. We have written letters to our prayer partners thanking them for their prayer and letting them know we are praying for them. These are people of the parish who volunteer to pray especially for second graders as they prepare to receive First Penance and First Communion. You may have seen the card sent by your child’s prayer partner.
Continue to pray with your child and be sure he or she knows the Hail Mary, the Our Father, and the Act of Sorrow. This week we are finishing Chapter 8 and moving on to Chapter 9 in Religion, which is about the first three Commandments.
In Reading we are working on the last story of Unit 2, so you will receive a new Vocabulary sheet for the next unit on Friday. It is important to review words from previous units and reread stories to achieve fluency.
In Math we will finish up Chapter 3 on Data and Graphs before Thanksgiving and move on to Chapter 4 Addition: Two-Digit Numbers.
Science class will be all about fossils and dinosaurs in the coming weeks. In Social Studies we have been studying about the climate and natural resources.
We read about Veterans Day and discussed the importance of what our armed forces do to preserve our freedom. In December we will send Christmas cards to recovering American Soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Spelling and handwriting are improving with much effort. Hopefully by the end of the month we will begin our long-awaited lessons in cursive handwriting.
Thank you for all you do to teach your child and reinforce what he or she learns here.
