Our class is getting ready for Christmas by praying, doing good deeds for each other, and giving to the homeless and needy. Our advent wreath has three lit candles, and we are full of excitement and anticipation.
We have just finished Chapter 11 in the Religion text and will move into Chapter 12, "We Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation." The vocabulary words can be difficult, so the children will need help from their parents to review at home. They are doing very well with their prayers. We watched the children's video on First Penance and took a look at one of the Reconciliation rooms. They are very interested and asked many good questions.
The story we just finished in Reading, "Meet the Super Croc," tied in very well with the Science chapter on fossils and dinosaurs. We have one more story in Unit 3 of Reading. We will cover that after the Christmas break and then begin Unit 4, "Land, Sea, Sky."
Math Chapter 5, which we just began, is on subtraction of two-digit numbers. Reviewing subtraction facts over the long Christmas break would definitely be helpful.
Unit 3 of Social Studies is about customs, culture, immigrants, and traditions. Second graders will learn about the symbols, monuments, and holidays of our country.
We move into physical science in the next unit of Science. The states of matter, sound, heat, light, and magnets are some of the fascinating things we will study.
May you and your family enjoy a blessed Christmas season! Let's continue to work together in helping your child learn in 2008.
