What’s Happening in Room Q January 18, 2010

Religion:

This week the children will be learning that their parish is like a family. They will also be learning about how the parish helps many people.

Reading/Phonics:

This week we will continue to work on consonant digraphs ch-, wh- and tch-. The high frequency words are: light, our, your, would, again. Please encourage your child to practice these words at home.

Grammar/Writing Workshop:

We are still working on past tense verbs. This week the students will be writing sentences about actions they did in the past. In writing workshop, they will be writing stories about shadows. They will be using descriptive words to tell what shadows look like and how shadows are made.

Math:

This week in math we are learning about different types of graphs. The students will be working on Venn diagrams, tally charts, and picture graphs. The children will have an opportunity to make their own graphs.

Spelling:

We will have a spelling test on Monday, January 25 since we did not have school this Moday. The words are: light, would, again, care, together, pull, when, could. Don’t forget to use spellingcity.com to practice you spelling words. Social Studies:

This week in social studies we will be learning about natural resources. The student will learn what natural resources are and what they are used for.

Science:

This week we will be learning about solids, liquids, and gases. We will be doing some neat science experiments this week.
