Fall is Here!

It is hard to believe that we are almost finished with the first quarter of school. We have been very busy in room 1Q. We are learning how to add and subtract. We are also doing a great job reading. Our word wall keeps growing and growing! We are learning so many new words. I am very happy with all the hard work that is happening in room 1Q. Keep working hard first grade; you are doing a fabulous job!!

We have also been doing some fun fall activities. We are leaning about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Ask your children to tell you how a pumpkin grows from a seed into a big orange pumpkin. I am sure they would love to tell you all about it. We are learning so much about pumpkins, I think we are becoming pumpkin experts. We have also been writing about pumpkins. The children wrote great poems about pumpkins. Don’t forget to look at them when you come to school. They are hanging in the hallway outside our classroom. Finally, we made jack-o-lanterns. They look great on the bulletin board in our classroom!!!

Here are some fun fall activities you can do at home:

*collect leaves and make a leaf collage

*make a leaf pile and jump in it

*go on a nature hike and enjoy all the beautiful colors on the trees

*go to the pumpkin patch

*pick apples

*make pumpkin seeds

*carve a jack-o-lantern

*read a book about fall

*write a story about fall

*write a story about Halloween
