Greetings again from Homeroom 6P! It is hard to believe our school year is nearly half over! The Advent season is upon us already, and as we prepare for the birth of our Savior, we pause to consider what gifts we can bring to HIM...
Students in 6P have been working on an Advent journal focusing on what they can do for others this season. This could be anything from visiting an elderly neighbor with cookies and conversation to simply helping their parents around the house with extra chores. No matter what is done, our primary goal is to make sure we are giving of ourselves as God intended for His son. As St. Francis of Assisi said..."For it is in giving that we receive..." Christ is the ultimate gift this season...how can we bring Him to others? Hopefully through this journaling experience we can find out!
In other 6P news....
We recently finished up our classroom geography bee. There were some pretty tough questions about continents, countries, and cities of the world, but we learned quite a few interesting facts about the world in which we live. We congratulate the two students who will be representing our class at the school geography bee in January!
In social studies, we are studying about the second largest country (in land area) in the world...Canada! Our friendly neighbors to the north have a diverse history, and we will study a little bit about the provinces/territories, resources, and nationalities that make up this expansive country.
By the end of December, we hope to conclude our look at To Kill a Mockingbird. It has not been an easy read, but we have learned to ask lots of questions and place ourselves in the shoes of some of the characters. Students have really enjoyed learning about Scout, Jem, Dill, and other key characters as they journey through childhood during a very difficult era in our history. We are looking forward to seeing the production of this novel at the Edison Theatre on January 8th!
Finally, here are some dates to remember:
** December 19th - last day of 2nd quarter, noon dismissal
** December 20th - January 5th - Christmas break
** January 8th - field trip to see To Kill a Mockingbird at the Edison Theatre
Have a blessed Christmas!
