Happenings in Homeroom 3C

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy November!! I hope you are gearing up for the fun holiday season! We are certainly excited about it in class! Here is an update about what we’ve been working on so very hard in class:

Religion: In religion, we have discussed Jesus’ resurrection as well as our gift of faith. We’ve learned about Jesus’ second coming at the end of time and how he will judge all people. We are practicing showing our love of others in the classroom and in all areas of our lives.

Reading: In reading, we have been very busy at work. We have focused on many different ways to attack words we are unsure of as well as concepts to strengthen our comprehension. We know how to determine an author’s purpose for writing, we can make inferences and we are currently working on determining the setting of a book by seeking out clues.

Grammar: In grammar we have been focusing on nouns in many different forms. We have learned about singular and plural nouns and the different rules for changing singular nouns into plural nouns. We have also reviewed common and proper nouns.

Writing: This brings us to writing! We have made huge strides so far in writing. We can write pretty good opening and closing sentences and we are able to add lots of information to our writing as well! We have written a personal narrative about an event in our life as well as a piece on how we feel about fall. We are currently working on a persuasive piece that is very fun!

Math: We have just finished our addition unit in math. We have worked very, very hard but feel confident in our addition abilities. We have practiced our timed addition tests in three minutes and will continue to practice those to keep our skills fluent. We are about to start subtraction. Timed subtraction tests in four minutes or less is our next task. It’s going to be a difficult task but we feel with our base of addition facts we can handle subtraction.

Social Studies/Science: In social studies we are talking about geography, landforms and resources. We have already learned a lot of interesting information! In science we have started on our animal unit. We are learning lots of new information here as well!

Whew! We have been so hard at work.
