December Update
What has been going on in Homeroom 3C?

Merry Christmas and Happy December!! I hope you are enjoying the holiday season! We are certainly excited about Jesus’ birth in class! Here is an update about what we’ve been working on so very hard in class:

Religion: In religion, we have discussed the church’s beginning and how it grew. We know that a church is a community of people who are baptized and follow Jesus. We know there’s a difference between being baptized and following Jesus. We also talked about the disciples and how Jesus gave them a special mission. Finally, we discussed the Holy Spirit and how He helps us each day.

Reading: In reading, we have been reviewing previously learned concepts as well as many new ones. We are working on becoming masters at inferencing as well as using context clues to figure out words or ideas that are unclear to us. We have also really jumped on the AR wagon and are very busy reading and taking quizzes in order to reach our AR goals.

Grammar: In grammar we have been focusing on many different skills. We have worked on plurals and the rules on changing singular nouns to plurals. We have also touched on abbreviations as well as combining like subjects or predicates into one sentence from two separate sentences.

Writing: This brings us to writing! We have written persuasive pieces on whether or not you should eat turkey for Thanksgiving and we also have our explanatory writing pieces underway! We have some very creative ideas on things we can explain!

Math: We just finished our subtraction unit! I believe it wasn’t as bad as the students thought! We have learned how to subtract and regroup up to four digits as well as regrouping with zeros! We are professional subtractors!

Social Studies/Science: In social studies we just finished our landform and geography unit. We know about renewable and nonrenewable resources as well as how Mexico City was founded! In science we have just finished our animal unit. We are constantly learning lots of new information about our world around us.

This concludes our second quarter! I can’t believe the year is halfway over! I hope you have seen as many great learning strides as I have! I’m so impressed with how far they’ve come and we’re only half way through the year!
Thanks for checking out our newsletter, have an AWESOME Christmas and a very Happy New Year and feel free to send any questions, comments or concerns my way!
